Park entrance fees is also defined as conservation tariff by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). For the park to stay in existence without human encroachment and other activities that partially aid resilience and balance to the ecological community, this little charge has to be levied from the visitors to all protected areas with in Uganda.

Last year the Uganda wildlife authority (UWA) publicized the conservation tariffs to protected areas with in Uganda; national park, game reserves and forest reserves. Uganda wildlife authority ranked all the protected areas in Uganda into categories starting with the major national parks in Uganda including Queen Elizabeth national park. And the park entry tariffs for visitors to queen Elizabeth National Park are stipulated as below;

  • Adults that visit Queen Elizabeth National Park are required to pay a charge of; USD40 for foreign nonresidents, USD30 for foreign residents and UGX20000 for the citizens of East African Community.
  • Children visiting queen Elizabeth National Park are charged; USD20 for foreign nonresidents, USD10 for foreign residents and UGX5000 for children that are citizens of the East African Community.
  • Ugandan pupils and students are required to pay a park entry charge of UGX3000, the tertiary institutions and universities are charged UGX5000 per person.

Uganda Wildlife Authority also stipulated annual tariffs for park entrance pass as explained below;

  • Individuals visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park and want to pay for the annual park entrance pass are entitled to a charge of USD350 for foreign residents and UGX150000 for citizens of the East African Community.
  • The annual charge for couples that visit Queen Elizabeth National Park is; USD5000 for foreign residents and UGX200000 for East African Community citizens.
  • A family’s annual charge for park entrance to queen is; USD700 for foreign residents and UGX300000 for the citizens of the East African Community. To note, a family has to consist strictly four (4) children according to Uganda Wildlife Authority.
  • Corporate annual park entrance pass is charged; USD1500 for foreign residents and UGX 2500000 for the East African Community members.
  • A safari guide is entitled to a charge of UGX100000 for an annual gate pass at Queen Elizabeth National Park. The same charge of UGX100000 is required of the taxi driver in order to acquire the annual park entry to queen Elizabeth National Park. However, a tour company driver is not charge for the park entrance pass to queen Elizabeth National Park.
  • A tour operator that is a foreign resident of Uganda is entitled to a charge of USD50 for an annual park entrance pass for Queen Elizabeth National Park. However a tour operator who is a member of the East African Community is entitled to a charge of UGX125000 for a park entry pass on an annual basis.

Residents in this case are divided into two;

  1. Foreign residents are the foreigners that are staying in Uganda for quite some time, there reasons are mainly work related, this is why for the foreign residents to get an annual permit, they hay to present a valid working permit for not less than a year as this helps to confirm their status.
  2. Residents of Uganda that are citizens here and also citizens of the East African Community, these ones are required to present their national ids to confirm their status. Residents that are citizens of Uganda have to be with valid national identification cards to prove they are citizens of Uganda.

However, non-residents are foreign visitors who are in Uganda with the main reason of visiting being tourism. Foreign nonresidents are required to present a valid pass port to the office in order to get entrance passes to protected areas in Uganda.

The entrance fee to Queen Elizabeth national park is an exemption to children from the age of 0-5 years. And other children that are entitled to entrance park entrance fees are those between 5-15 years, about that age a person is categorized under adults.

After verifying your status, then the officer will issue you an entrance pass to Queen Elizabeth National Park. However, the entrance permits, just as any other protected area, for queen Elizabeth National Park are valid for only 24hours. Any extra time past 24hours inside the Queen Elizabeth National Park is charged as a second day. Therefore, it is good to be time conscious about your time in into Queen Elizabeth National Park, and time out of the national park. This will help you not to be charged with a lot of money from fatal mistakes.

What to know about the park entrance fee for Queen Elizabeth National Park

  • For all the foreign residents and members of the East African Community that visit Queen Elizabeth National park with any vehicle, they should know that the vehicle entering a protected area in Uganda is charge according to the protected area policy. And this charge is separate from the entrance fee or gate pass into the national park.
  • The entrance tariff to any protected area; Queen Elizabeth National Park, inclusive, is independent of the charge for the packages or permits to engage in certain activities with in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
  • Foreign residents are requested to present a one year valid working permit to the park visitor center in order to get their annual national park entrance pass to Queen Elizabeth National Park and any other protected area in Uganda.
