A safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the most popular and most visited game park in Uganda. The park is famously known to be a home to the rare unique and eye-catching tree-climbing lions. Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in western Uganda, about 400 km from the capital city, Kampala.

A safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park will give you both road trip vibes and wildlife haven.  With the several districts you move across on your way to Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will experience diverse landscapes, vegetation, communities, and unique features, among other things.

Then when you get to the park, you are immersed in a whole different level of beauty from the crater lakes, the Kazinga channel, and fauna, and of course the wildlife.

In Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will find animals like buffalo, kobs, hippos, lions, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, elephants, and many more animals. If you have time, you will visit the Kyambura Gorge in the northeastern part of the park for nature walks and a chimpanzee trek.

And if you are in for lions, in the ishasha sector, on the opposite side of the park, you will be delighted to find the tree climbing lions.

Usually, visits to Queen Elizabeth National Park take 3 days, and in those 3 days you will have a game drive or game drives, a boat ride or boat rides, nature walks, chimpanzee trekking, among other activities.

Your safari will start in Kampala,  and here is a rough itinerary you can base on to make your custom-made itinerary with your tour consultant.

Day 1: will find you in Kampala, you will get up early, have your breakfast then hit the road at 7am heading to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will get to the park in the midafternoon. You will check in into your accommodation have lunch and then go out for a boat ride. After the boat ride you will retire for the day. You can have some leisure time at your accommodation, dinner and then sleep.

Day 2: will be another delight you will be up early have an early game drive like at 5am, then after the game drive, you will then have breakfast, then after go for the lion tracking and then an afternoon game drive again.

Day 3: is your return to kampala day, but you can also get in some bird watching, chimpanzee trekking or another game drivebook before you head out of the park.

For your safari at Queen Elizabeth National Park we advise you book the safari through a tour operator and also get a car plus driver because the park most times does not offer cars for the game drives. Also tour operators can easily secure your entry tickets and make all the other payments on your behalf.

You should know that the park opens at 7am and closes at 7pm so plan your safari around that.  If you are planning to stay in the park, this will not be a problem because you are already in the park. However, if you are staying outside, these times are important to remember.

Queen Elizabeth National Park has budget, mid-range, and luxury accommodation in and outside the park. Consult with your tour consultant on which accommodations are available when you plan to visit. The park also has a camping option for those into camping.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is open to the public all year round so any time of the year is the best time to visit the park. Of course, the dry months of June to August, and December to February, have more tourists visiting the park.
