Chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu forest is done in two sessions that is the morning session which starts at 8:00am and the afternoon session which starts at around 2:00pm and each session starts with a briefing about the rules and regulations at the park headquarters. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest with an experienced park guide which takes about 2 to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking, you will be able to view other primate species and once the chimpanzees are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you a chance to watch them carry out their daily activities, learn about their behaviours, habits, take photos and record videos to show people back home.

How to get to Kalinzu forest

Kalinzu forest is located in the western part of Uganda in Bushenyi district near Queen Elizabeth national park and can be accessed by road transport means where you will drive from Kampala/ Entebbe via masaka, Mbarara or Mubende Fort portal and then to the park headquarters which takes about 5 to 6 hours’ drive in a safari vehicle.

Kalinzu forest can also be accessed from Bwindi impenetrable national park which takes about 5 hours’ drive and kibale forest national park which takes about 3 to 4 hours’ drive.

You can as well access Kalinzu forest by air transport means where you will book scheduled or charter domestic flights with Aerolink Uganda from Entebbe international airport to Kasese/ mweya airstrip and then connect to Kalinzu forest which takes about 2 hours’ drive.
