How to get to Queen Elizabeth national park; Queen Elizabeth national park is the second largest protected area in Uganda located in western region in four districts namely Kasese, Rubirizi, Kamwenge and Rukungiri. Queen Elizabeth national park was gazette in 1952 and it covers a total area of 1,978 square kilometers which is comprised of savannah grassland, woodland, forest grassland and swamp vegetation which act as habitat for different wildlife species. Queen Elizabeth national park is a home of more than 95 animal species including the tree climbing lions in Ishasha sector, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, Uganda kobs, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, hippos, primates like chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, red tailed monkeys in Kyambura gorge and over 600 bird species.

How to get to Queen Elizabeth national park

Queen Elizabeth national park is located in western Uganda and can either be accessed by road or air transport means.

Road transport

Queen Elizabeth national park can be accessed by road transport means where by tourists will drive from Kampala or Entebbe as that’s the starting point for most of the trips to Queen Elizabeth national park. When using road transport means you will pass through Masaka, Mbarara, Kasese or Mubende Fort portal and then to the park headquarters which takes about 6 to 7 hours’ drive in a 4 WD safari vehicle.

When using road transport means, you can also use public means of transport in that there are bus companies that offer daily trips from Kampala to Kasese and then hire a car or motorcycle to connect to the park headquarters as public means of transport are not allowed to access the park.

Air transport means

Queen Elizabeth national park can also be accessed by air transport means where by you will book domestic scheduled or charter flights with Aerolink Uganda limited from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airfield to Mweya or Kasese airstrip. Scheduled flights from Entebbe international airport depart at 07:00 am, 10:15 am, 12:00pm and arrive at Mweya or Kasese airstrip at 10:05 am, 12:05 pm and 14:15 pm respectively while flights from Kasese or Mweya airstrip depart at 10:20am, 12:20pm, 14:20 pm and arrive at 11:25am, 13:30pm and 16:15pm respectively.
