What Is The Smallest Lake In Uganda : Lake Edward is known to be the smallest lake in Uganda, it is also ranked as the 15th in size among all the sizable lakes that are found in Africa covering a total surface area of about 2325 square kilometers, and it lies at an elevated area of about 920 meters above the sea level. More so, Lake Edward covers a maximum length of about 77 kilometers and it is around 112 meters deep measuring around 40 kilometers wide. Lake Edward is located in the Southwestern region of Uganda in Kasese district and it is known to be fed by several rivers such as; Ishasha river, Ntungwe River, Rutshuru River, Rwindi River and Nyamugasani river among others.

Lake Edward is situated within Queen Elizabeth National park, which is famously known as the most visited game park in the country, and it is ranked as the second largest national park in Uganda after Murchison falls national park. therefore, with the main aim of visiting this lake it also blesses tourists to be able to explore through the beautiful landscapes with the park  as you get chances to overlook at many attractions like crater lakes, the tree climbing lions and many other mammal species such as; the endangered chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys among others.

History about Lake Edward.

A European explorer who was named Henry Morton Stanley in 1888 discovered Lake Edward. In addition, this lake was named after Prince Albert Edward who was the son of the British Monarch. However, during the regime of Idi Amin Dada who was the former president of Uganda, he named the lake after his name but unfortunately, after his downfall which happened during 1979, the lake was renamed again.
