3 Days Lake Bunyonyi Safari is an extraordinary trip that will take you to Lake Bunyonyi also called a place of much little bird located in southwestern Uganda between Kabale and Kisoro districts. Lake Bunyonyi is located at 1,962 meters above sea level, about 25 km long and 7 km wide which makes it the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika. The lake has about 29 islands including punishment island, Bushara Island and during the safari you will be able to engage in different activities like canoeing, cultural tour where you will get an opportunity to interact with the local people in the communities around the lake among others.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, depending on your location on the first day of the 3 days Lake Bunyonyi safari our driver guide will pick you up from the hotel or Entebbe airport, brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Lake Bunyonyi which is located in southwestern Uganda. On the way you will have a stopover at the Equator in Kayabwe where you will buy craft souvenirs, take photos and then proceed with another stopover at Igongo cultural center for lunch. After lunch you will continue the journey which will be filled with spectacular views of the countryside, rolling hills, terraced farmlands, plantations, beautiful landscapes among others. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Canoeing and afternoon cultural tour

Canoeing, after breakfast on the second day of the 3 days Lake Bunyonyi safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for amazing canoe ride which is carried out in a dugout canoe with an experienced guide. During canoe ride you will paddle along the lake shores, explore some of the islands like the punishment island where you will listen to the story behind it, view mammals along the shores, water birds such as black herons, African kingfisher, fish eagles, great cormorants, Hadada ibis, bee-eaters, egrets, slender billed baglafetch, sunbirds, enjoy the beautiful scenery, terraced farmlands, rolling hills, meet with the local people who will be canoeing to their gardens or homesteads and school children going to school. After the canoe ride you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Cultural tour, after lunch you will go for an interesting cultural tour with a local guide which gives you an opportunity to interact with the Batwa and Bakiga people who live in the villages around the lake. During the cultural tour you will be able to learn about the local people cultural, tradition, way of living, visit their markets, farmlands and learn how to dig, visit the traditional healer, primary schools, health facilities, learn how to make local beer from bananas, taste their local dishes, enjoy traditional entertainments, listen to ancient stories among others. After the cultural tour you will return to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Departure to Kampala

On the last day of the 3 days Lake Bunyonyi tour, you will have a relaxed breakfast while listening to sweet sounds of birds and enjoying breathtaking views of the mist rising off the lake, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. On the way you will have en-route lunch in Mbarara town where after you will proceed to Kampala arriving early evening. Upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight or drop off at the hotel in Kampala depending on your schedule.
